Rebecca Tallon De Havilland is the first known transgender women to have undergone gender reassignment surgery in Ireland in 1991. A heartbreaking journey led to the loss of her career and relationships, and saw Rebecca diagnosed with HIV while battling addiction.

After completing rehab she began to rebuild her life and co-wrote her memoir ‘His Name is Rebecca’, which was a great success in Ireland and gave people an insight into the stigma she faced. Rebecca has participated in a host of campaigns with the Terence Higgins Trust around HIV awareness, in addition to LGBT campaigns for MasterCard, American Express and Barclays. She is also a Positive Voices Coordinator and goes around the UK educating young people about HIV prevention.

Rebecca is a Certified Proud Icon because as an out trans woman at a time when it wasn’t understood or accepted, Rebecca has shown strength and resilience, and pushed through against all odds.
